The Daily News has initiated the Newspapers In Education (NIE) program to supply newspapers to local elementary and secondary schools for use in classroom instruction.
Grants are paid for by The Daily News, local business sponsors and generous subscribers.
By contributing to NIE you are helping our young people learn the importance of current events and instilling a sense of civic awareness.
What your donation helps to do:
- NIE encourages students to become involved in their community and their world.
- NIE cultivates tomorrow's newspaper readers, tomorrow's problem solvers, tomorrow's leaders.
- NIE also stretches today's tight school budgets by providing (at no charge to the schools) excellent, low-cost teaching material.
In addition to providing newspapers and support material, the NIE program is involved with:
- "Sign on to Literacy" on International Literacy Day, September 8th of each year.
- "Design-An-Ad" advertising contest held each school year with local classrooms learning about advertising.
- Reforestation Project.
- Tours of The Daily News.
